Dear Northside
The turning point of the book of Ruth comes when Naomi realises that Boaz is their kinsman-redeemer. The turning point of our lives comes when we realise that Jesus is our kinsman-redeemer.
“He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” — Philippians 2:8
When Jesus stepped into time, He did not arrive as royalty demanding honour but as a servant embracing humility. Although He was fully God incarnate, He laid aside the privileges of divinity and clothed Himself in our frailty, entering our world through a virgin’s womb and walking among us in the dust of our brokenness. This was not divine disguise. It was divine identification.
Scripture tells us He “made Himself of no reputation,” choosing not only to take on flesh but to fully embrace the limits and vulnerabilities of our human condition. Hunger. Pain. Tears. Temptation. Weariness. He bore it all, not out of obligation, but out of love. And why? Because He came as our kinsman-redeemer.
Like Boaz to Ruth, Jesus became one of us so He could redeem us. Under God’s law, only a relative could buy back what had been lost. So, Christ became our Brother, fully human yet without sin, and paid a price we never could. In doing so, He didn’t just rescue us, He restored us to the family of God.
A Prayer for Today
Lord Jesus, thank You for humbling Yourself to become one of us. Today, I receive again the wonder of Your redeeming love. You are my Savior, my Brother, my Redeemer. Keep me ever mindful of the price You paid and the grace You give. In Your mighty name I pray, Amen.
But the story does not stop there. Jesus came to be the kinsman-redeemer of the world. You and I need to be telling people this Good News. On Sunday the 7 people who were baptised, told us their story. You have a story. Why don’t you ask God for opportunities to tell someone hour story. Maybe start with the story of Ruth and Boaz. Tell someone about Jesus this week. And as we start preparing for Christmas, invite them to come and hear the story of Jesus and the Good News, full of faith, hope, love and peace!
Praise God for the people who were baptised last Sunday. Continue to pray for them. Pray that they will continue to grow in their faith as they #WalkintheSpirit. The next baptism will be in February 2026. Put your name down now if you want to be baptised.
Membership classes start today. Pray for those who are attending.
Please pray for Pastor Vere and Kiyase as they are in Zambia celebrating the graduation of Blessed.
God bless, Pastor Gary
