Thanksgiving and Christmas

Dear Northside

Over the past few weeks, we have been giving thanks as part of celebrating Thanksgiving. I was at a function this morning where one of our members said one of the hardest emotions to communicate is gratitude. What are you thankful for?

This week we had our last Elders meeting of the year. I am thankful for our eldership team. We went from 3 elders to 1 but because Pastor Vere and me are considered part of the eldership team we had 3 of us. I think our eldership team is one that not too many people are aware of. We have been challenged to make our elders more visible. But one of the things I am thankful for is that our elders are happy to remain in the background. Not one of them is pushing to be recognised or desiring to have a title. Instead, our elders meet faithfully every week to discuss the affairs of the church and pray. A large part of our prayers are for members of the church, especially those we know about who are going through tough times. Our elders set the course and direction of the church, after seeking God’s will for His church here. Our elders oversee the church council and all our ministries. When problems arise, our elders rise to meet the need. Please join me in thanking God for our eldership. We are looking for names of faithful mature men to join the eldership team. If you wish to nominate someone, please let one of the Pastors know.

Another team I am giving God thanks for is our décor team. Again, we do not see all the work that happens in the background, but we do get to see the results of all their hard work. All those stars on the front wall are amazing – Behold a Saviour. Plus, we have put up our stable scene in the Village – go take a look, especially if you have children. Take your children with you and tell them the story. A lot of work went into this.

This weekend we celebrate the second Sunday of Advent. We have looked at the Promised Hope and this week we are looking at The Prophetic Peace. These are 2 things our world needs and is desperately looking for, hope and peace. Please help us tell people the real story of Christmas. You can do this by simply inviting someone to come with you to our Christmas services. Or you can tell them the story yourself. Behold a Saviour! Help others to see that Jesus is the Saviour.

Please pray and support:

  • Our Projest127 Orphan Care camp that leaves on the 13th.
  • Our Holiday Club starting on the 11th.
  • Our service of Remembrance on the 15th.
  • Our Carols by Candlelight service on the 22nd.
  • Our Christmas Day service on the 25th.
  • Our Crossover service on the 31st.

I bring you good news that will bring great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord!

God bless, Pastor Gary
