Prison Ministry
MISSION STATEMENT
Glorify God by visiting various prisons in Zimbabwe to minister the Word of God and to show compassion to inmates and the Prison Officials.
ACTIVITIES
The Northside Prison Ministry, in partnership with the River of Life Prison Ministry, is committed to bringing hope, healing, and transformation to incarcerated individuals. With unwavering compassion, the ministry regularly visits prisons, sharing the life-changing Word of God with a dedicated class of approximately 40 inmates. Each term, the team extends its outreach to main prisons, ensuring that all inmates receive encouragement, support, and a powerful reminder that they are not forgotten.
Beyond spiritual guidance, the ministry actively invests in training and team-building initiatives, strengthening its mission and equipping volunteers with the skills, unity, and resilience needed to serve effectively. Through these efforts, they cultivate a sense of dignity, redemption, and renewed purpose in the lives of those they reach, fostering lasting change from within.
Every Wednesday, the team faithfully carries out its mission—one week ministering to Chikurubi Female Prison, and the next visiting Marondera Open Prison and St. Thomas Closed Prison to deliver the Healing Through Forgiveness Course. In addition, every other Friday morning, a dedicated class of 40 participants at Chikurubi Male Maximum Prison receives this transformative course.
Expanding their reach even further, the ministry now shares the Healing Through Forgiveness Course with inmates at Goromonzi Prison and Harare Central Prison, ensuring that more individuals can experience restoration, healing, and the power of forgiveness.
ACTIVITIES
A Creche and Nursery School was built at the Chikurubi Maximum Female Prison which supports the inmate mothers, toddlers and children of the officers, through the Michael Project.
There are about 50 children in the whole nursery school and of that about 10 or 12 are babies under 2 years of age. The numbers of babies in the Creche section usually vary from time to time – depending on when the mothers are discharged.
Since the year 2018, our prison ministry team has trained well over a thousand inmates in the Healing Through Forgiveness Course, given to classes of about 40 inmates, at a time, for a period of 6 weeks.
