Mother’s Day

In last week’s Pastor’s blog, I looked at how to pursue what matters most. I hope it helped you? We are always happy to receive feedback on how God is speaking to you and transforming you through His Word and His Church here at Northside.

Last Sunday Pastor Vere showed how the Ascension of Jesus was the end of the beginning and the beginning of the end. Jesus told His disciples that He had to go back to the Father so that He could pour out His Spirit on all those who follow Him. It is this power from on high that we need to be His witnesses in the world. God has given us a mission – are you an active part of His mission? If you do not know or are uncertain about how to become part of the Mission, please came see Pastor Vere or myself.

Today we celebrate Mother’s Day. It seems the romans celebrated mothers, but it wasn’t until 1914 that President Wilson made it a public holiday in the USA. We have a painting at home of the father welcoming home the prodigal son. It is famous because the father has 2 different hands – one is masculine and the other is feminine. The artist wanted to portray God’s love for us through the prodigal son’s father. A love that is both masculine and feminine. It is why God’s plan for families includes a mom and a dad. And so today we can celebrate God’s love through our mothers. We all have a mother and mothers are amazing. Thank you to all our mothers, physical and spiritual, past, present and future. Thank you for showing us a glimpse of God’s love.

We understand that for some of our wonderful ladies in the church, Mother’s Day is a difficult day. We believe that this is where the church really makes a difference. Every lady in the church can be a mother to someone. Older ladies live pure lives and teach and train the younger ladies.

Next Saturday (17th May) we are holding a Newcomers Tea at the Christian Counselling Centre from 2pm to 4pm. We have held this event since COVID. So if you are new to Northside, since COVID, or have not attended a Newcomers Tea before and would like to, please go the Welcome Table and register with the team there. Families, children, teenagers, young adults, adults are all welcome. Come and meet some of our leadership team, meet the Pastors, and hear about how Northside started and some of our history and how you can become an active part of the Northside family. We need you to register so we can organise the catering etc. Thank you!

God bless, Pastor Gary
