KidzCan & being the church

Hello Northside

Last Sunday was amazing! Thank you to everyone who came in orange, who bought KidzCan merchandise and paid their “fine”. We were able to give KidzCan around USD1250. It seems we ran out of KidzCan baseball caps. We have a new assignment from KidzCan, so you can contact the church office if you want to buy one. We also have other KidzCan merchandise for sale.

James 1:27 tells us that the religion God accepts as pure and faultless is looking after orphans and widows in their distress. I know that this is the verse for our orphan care ministry (Project 127), but I also feel it applies to KidzCan and Pari Volunteers. Through these 2 ministries, we look after and show God’s love to children in hospitals and children fighting cancer and their families. How amazing is that?

Through KidzCan, we minister to every child (under 18) who has cancer. We work closely with the Ministry of Health and especially Parirenyatwa Hospital, which is the only referral hospital for cancer in the country. We are the regional global partner of St Judes in Memphis, Tennessee – the largest pediatric oncology hospital in the world. St Judes leads the world in research and development of new cancer drugs and protocols. This means that our children receive the latest protocols and medical attention from doctors and nurses. We also source affordable drugs and provide them for free. Through the Rainbow Children’s Village, we provide free accommodation for the children and their caregiver and can oversee their nutrition and hygiene – 2 very important aspects of the fight. You can assist through volunteering and/or donating to KidzCan.

Through Pari Volunteers, we support KidzCan with any other medical needs of the children in the hospital who do not have cancer. Primarily, we are supplying 4 hospitals with shunts for children with hydrocephalus. We are seeing a surge in children being born with this condition. Please see Shephard Chizwina if you want to know more about this.

Today, KidzCan is a large PVO with a budget close to USD1 million. We thank God for His heart for children, including children fighting cancer. We thank God for inspiring Andrea to start this ministry and for sustaining it all these years. It is amazing seeing God use an ordinary believer to do something extraordinary for His glory.

What is God asking you to do for Him? It may not be starting a new ministry. It may be getting involved in an existing ministry and making it stronger. I think of Rudo and Leonard, who have joined the Décor Team. We already had a great team, but today it is even better. And we have the next generation involved as well. So, young people – where does God want you to get involved? Age is no excuse.

Let us, as a church and as individuals, continue to follow Jesus, obeying His commands by supporting KidzCan, Pari Volunteers, Project 127 and all our amazing ministries.

God bless, Pastor Gary
